Solution

(b) \textbf{Bar chart}

The width of each bar has to be the same and the height has to be equal to the number of members (millions).

(c) \textbf{Pareto chart}

The bars should have equal width and the height has to be equal to the frequency.

The bars have to be ranked from highest to lowest.

The pie chart is not very effective, because it is very hard to compare the categories that have slices of roughly the same size.

The bar chart is also not very effective, because some of the bars appear to have roughly the same height and thus it is difficult to compare these categories.

A Pareto chart is the most effective, because we know that the number of members (in millions) decreases as the bar is more to the right and thus it is still easy to compare bars that have roughly the same height.

Answers

(a) The percent is the frequency divided by the total frequency.

The slice size (central angle of the circle) is the product of 360 and the percent. Draw a circle
\text{\textdegree}

Draw the slices for each category using the determined slice sizes.

(b) The width of each bar has to be the same and the height has to be equal to the number of members (millions).

(c) Pareto Chart is the most effective
